The Mum's That Made Us.

Much to our children's surprise... we too were little ones once. And way back then, it was our mothers, grandmothers, and so many wonderful others that shaped us.

So, this Mothers Day, we're looking way back when... at the Mums that made *us*. Because one thing's for true: we hope our little ones feel the way we do about you, about us, their mums, when they're grown too.

Team, tell us: who has better fashion sense – your Mum or you?

Anastasia, Graphic Designer

My mum! She was practically my fashion consultant growing up, and even now.

Nick, E-Commerce Specialist

My mum has been seriously coming through with some epic teacher outfits as of lately - so... mum for sure.

Ebony, Head of Brand Marketing

I’m not sure either of us are better than the other! But I think mum would say me, because she’s been letting me be her personal stylist since I was about 7 years old. She took me to style school and let me become the teacher, and I love that about her – all my many fashion risks came from her willingness to let me go wild with my style (and hers)!

Has your mum ever made you wear something embarrassing in public?

Elaine, General Manager

Nothing embarrassing, she had the best taste!

Alana, Founder

When I was little, crawling around, she made me pants out of a plastic Just Jeans bag so I wouldn’t put holes in my other pants.

Anastasia, Graphic Designer

A ladybug dress costume.. to take album photos in public. 🐞

Ebony, Head of Brand Marketing

The frangipani boardshorts with matching bedazzled singlets from my tween years come to mind…

Charlene, Garment Tech

She dressed my sister and myself in matching outfits all the time – but I loved it, always wanted to be like my older sister. My sister might not have the same sentiment!

Nick, E-Commerce Specialist

My mum hasn't made me, but has let me wear some wild things - like yellow and black Air Force 1's that were 3 sizes too big for me (they didn't come in kids sizes but I insisted)...

What’s one fashion “rule” your mum taught you?

Charlene, Designer

I don’t think she really had any fashion rules – which I’m learning is the best way to be – to express yourself unapologetically through fashion is freeing.

Elaine, General Manager

You must always feel good in what you’re wearing.

Nick, E-Commerce Specialist

To wear anything I feel comfortable in.

Amy, Warehouse Manager

Never leave the house without taking a jacket/jumper with you! #justmelbournethings

What items would your mum choose from the Way Back When Collection?

Anastasia, Graphic Designer

Flora Relaxed Terry Sweater and Sammy Corduroy Overalls Sweetpea have all her preferred colour palette.

Ebony, Head of Brand Marketing

Maybe the Seaside Daisy Balloon Overalls and the Candy Stripe Skivvy? It’s giving 80s, maximal, comfortable – and I think she’d agree!

Alana, Founder

She would pick the Corduroy Overalls, they were a wardrobe staple for my brother and I when we were little.

Amy, Warehouse Manager

Defs the Rio track set in Cotton Candy, that’s a winner winner!!

What’s one outfit your mum picked that you still remember years later?

Amy, Warehouse Manager

Stripey tights with a denim skirt that I wore at kinder. A very Goldie + Ace look, actually!

Ebony, Head of Brand Marketing

I’m not sure she chose it, but she definitely endorsed it – the black and leopard print velvet matching sets, always worn with yellow clogs!!!

Anastasia, Graphic Designer

A pink puffy tutu skirt that I would wear almost everyday with its matching pink tank top. Running around in it felt dreamy!

Elaine, General Manager

A floral Laura Ashely dress with a cute collar. A very Flo Dress moment!

Charlene, Designer

Oh there are so many!!!! I do remember a special party dress that I wore on my 6th birthday, it was light blue lace! It went well with my painted face that I had done at my birthday party at McDonalds.

Alana, Founder

My reversible parka, pink with white piping and blue with red piping on the reverse, with zip off sleeves. My all time favourite! Oh, and my Alf jumper but I'm sure that was my pick and not hers…
